On
Thursday, November 20, 2003, Chairman Harold Frazier
and some Tribal Council Representatives of the Cheyenne
River Sioux Tribe met with the family of PFC Sheldon
Hawk Eagle in the Tribal Council Room in Eagle Butte,
South Dakota. The Tribe and the Hawk Eagle family
met to discuss the Memorial Tribute to PFC Sheldon
Hawk Eagle.
PFC
Sheldon Hawk Eagle, 101st Airborne Division will
return to his homeland on Saturday, November 22,
2003, from Northern Iraq. Memorial services will
begin with an escort on Monday, November 24, 2003
at 1:00 p.m. at Junction 63, four miles east of
Eagle Butte on Hwy 212 to the Cultural Center.
Upon
arrival at the Cultural Center, a Memorial March
will begin from the Cultural Center to the Cheyenne
Eagle Butte (CEB) High School Gym. A memorial dinner
will be served at the CEB High School Cafeteria
At 5:00 p.m. and prayer services will begin at 7:00
p.m. at the CEB High School Gym.
The
Veterans will post their colors at 7:00 a.m. on
Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at the CEB High School
Gym. Funeral services will begin at 8:00 a.m. at
the CEB High School Gym. Immediately after the funeral
services an escort to the Black Hills National Cemetery
in Sturgis, South Dakota will leave at 9:00 a.m..
The Military Burial Services will be at 1:00 p.m.
at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis,
South Dakota
The
Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe is declaring November
25, 2003, as a Day of Mourning
for PFC Sheldon Hawk Eagle and all Tribal offices
will be closed. All flags will be flown at half
mast on that day. The Tribe also requested that
the local I.H.S. and B.I.A. participate in the declaration
of the Day of Mourning
and join the Memorial Tribute to PFC Sheldon Hawk
Eagle.
